Biologically active product for combating bee nosemosis

Purpose

Combination of some alcoholic extracts and essential oils of Origanum vulgare inflorescence, Evernia lichens, stems, leaf, Agustache foeniculum inflorescence, Brewers Gold hop cones, Laurus nobilis leaves, Artemisia absinthium leaves and seeds of Vaccinium myrtillus in the purpose of obtaining a single product with antimicrobial effect and natural antioxidant in combating nosemosis in bees.

About the Project

Objectives and Activities

  • (O1) Obtaining a prototype of medicinal herbal product

    • A1. Obtaining extracts and essential oils from medicinal herbs;

    • A2. Evaluation of the antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of the extracts and oils obtained;

    • A3. Defining the concept of the innovative product (establishing the manufacturing recipe, the way of working);

    • A4. Product realization in faculty research laboratories (recipe optimization).

    • A5. Obtaining the prototype at the beneficiary.

  • (O2) Assessment of the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of the resulting prototype

    • A1. Assessment of antioxidant potential (DPPH, FRAP, ABTS methods) and content in polyphenolic compounds (Folin-Ciocalteau method);

    • A2. Testing the antimicrobial effect of the resulting product on reference strains in apiculture pathology (Paenibacillus larvae, Paenibacillus alvei, Brevibacillus laterosporus, Melissococcus plutonius, Enterococcus faecalis, Ascosphaera apis).

  • (O3) In vivo testing of the resulting prototype and confirmation of the result by microscopic and PCR based determination.

    • A1. Verification of the degree of infestation with Nosema spp. In the apiary of the USAMV, by microscopic and molecular PCR based method;

    • A2. Administration of sugar / honey syrup with added naturally produced product for one week to Nosema spp. infested bees;

    • A3. Checking the degree of infestation of bees with Nosema spp. after administration of the natural product.

  • (O4) Assessment of product stability on storage

    •  A1. In order to assess the degree of stability of the product, microbiological analyzes shall be carried out during the retention period, taking into account the determination of bacteria of the genus Enterobacteriaceae and the number of yeasts and molds by reference analytical methods - SR ISO 21528-1: 2009, SR ISO 21527-1: 2008.
